How do I oil my hair?

Wie öle ich meine Haare?

Although the combination of oil and hair isn't very good (greasy hair, yuck!), an oil treatment can be the solution to most of your hair and scalp problems. There are many ways you can use different types of oils and oils to make your hairstyle look better than ever.

Essential oils have been used in beauty care for thousands of years. We all know that including them in our daily diet - especially in the natural form of nuts, avocados or fatty dairy products - has very beneficial effects on our health, but it's only recently that we've been returning to the traditional method of using natural oils. which she applies to the hair and skin. Oiling the hair is particularly popular: but what is behind it and what results can it bring?

Why is it worth applying oil to your hair?

We usually do everything we can to keep our hair as light as possible: almost every day we use shampoos and conditioners that are designed to make our hair reduce the secretion of natural sebum. Regular, aggressive (just look at the composition of most shampoos, full of irritating detergents!) The deprivation of this natural protective layer makes the hair rough and dull and the scalp - irritated and flaky.

Worse still, such a "scratched" hairstyle becomes greasy much faster because the sebum-free skin tries with increased intensity to make up for what it has lost. Oils can help you repair this damage by restoring your scalp's natural balance and making your hair smooth, shiny and manageable again. And besides - although it seems paradoxical - their lubrication is significantly reduced.

How to choose a hair oil?

You have probably noticed that there are many different types of skin care oils on the market. Almost all can be applied to hair, but some are better than others! For dry, colored and damaged hair works best Avocadoöl, which has wonderful moisturizing properties, as well as argan oil, which is very fashionable lately.

Thin, weakened and shedding hair can benefit from a castor oil treatment. And owners of virtually any hair type can coconut oil (Caution: unrefined!) or try sweet almond oil. Oils can be mixed - and it's worth it - and you can create your own compositions, individually tailored to the needs of the hairstyle.

There are two popular types of hair oiling. First, apply a little oil to your hands (be careful not to overdo it: about a tablespoon should be enough for long hair!) and gradually distribute it over the entire length of dry, unwashed hair. The hair does not need to be soaked in oil: it is enough to show that it is covered! After oiling, protect the hairstyle with a bathing cap or foil. You can cover your hair with a hat or wrap it in a towel: heat supports the beneficial effects of the oil.

After at least an hour (preferably longer: the oil can also be left in the hair overnight) wash and care for the hair as usual. The second method, the "bowl method", consists in filling a bowl with warm water, pouring oil into it (in a similar amount as in the first method), stirring and immersing the hairstyle in the resulting emulsion. After thoroughly covering the hair with water and oil, squeeze out excess water and fix the hairstyle as in the first method. Wash and condition your hair after an hour.

The most important thing: effects!

If you are planning to embark on your hair oiling adventure, you must remember that regularity and consistency are key here. Oiling is not one of those methods that gives instant results: patience is required! For best results, oil your hair before each shampoo for at least a few weeks. Your hair will be soft, shiny, smooth and well-nourished. Remember to use only high-quality oils with a good, simple composition - in our eco-shop you will find a wide range of proven brands, from which you will definitely choose something for yourself!
