The Sandflower (Helichrysum arenarium) has a long tradition in European ethnobotany as a plant attributed with positive effects, among others, on the health of the liver and gallbladder. It is a perennial herbaceous plant belonging to the Asteraceae family and occurs wild both in Europe and Central Asia. The Latin name of the sand cover derives from the Greek words helios - "sun" and chrysos - "gold." This refers to the golden shiny color of the plant's inflorescence.

The main biologically active compounds found in the plant are flavonoids and flavanones, but also other compounds such as carotenoids. However, it is mainly the presence of flavonoids that contributes to the herb's positive properties (1).
