Leek (Allium ampeloprasum L.) is a biennial species of the allium family (subfamily of garlic) native to Asia Minor. This tasty and healthy vegetable was known and cultivated in ancient Egypt, Greece, and Rome, and came to Poland from Italy in the Middle Ages thanks to Queen Bona.
Leek is a plant rich in vitamins A, B, C, E, and K, and minerals such as calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, sodium, and zinc. It contains few calories, only about 30 per 100 g. When consumed regularly, it can have slimming, detoxifying, antihypertensive, and disease-preventing properties.
To make the leek more digestible, it is worth heating it.
