The pedunculate oak [Latin: Quercus robur] is a well-known tree symbolizing robustness, longevity, and traditional values, with an average lifespan of 600 to even 1,000 years. However, not everyone knows that oak bark has been an extremely valuable plant raw material for centuries. It is harvested in early spring from young trunks or branches, before the first leaves appear. In traditional medicine, decoctions of oak bark help with many ailments such as diarrhea, stomatitis, and skin problems. The tree naturally occurs only in the temperate zones of the Northern Hemisphere.
Oak Bark - a wealth of valuable ingredients
Tannins or tannic acids, responsible for astringent properties, polyphenols known for their anti-inflammatory, anti-edema, and hemostatic properties, triterpenes used in cosmetics due to their diverse properties, catechins - one of the strongest antioxidants, pectin, phytoncides known as plant antibiotics, quercetin distinguished by its antioxidant properties.
Oak Bark - when is it useful?
Hemorrhoids - baths prepared on the basis of oak bark are one of the most popular natural remedies for treating hemorrhoidal conditions. Mouth inflammations - due to their anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties, oak bark rinses help relieve unpleasant inflammations. Acute diarrhea - due to its tannin content, oak bark helps rid the body of the cause of diarrhea. Hair prone to oiliness - for such hair, a rinse with oak bark can help, not only solving the problem but also gently darkening and deepening the hair color.

Powdered oak bark and oak bark extracts are included in natural hair dyes and coloring shampoos (mixtures e.g. with henna, chestnut bark, turmeric, cinnamon, bark, and walnut shell).
Recommended use
Add 1 level tablespoon (approx. 3 g) of oak bark to 1 cup (250 ml) of cold water and boil for 5 minutes. Let stand for 15 minutes and strain.
Oak Bark Rinse
Required ingredients: 3 tablespoons (about 10 g) of chopped oak bark, 500 ml of water. Boil the water, pour over the oak bark and let cool. After cooling, pour into a bowl and use the prepared rinse during the last rinse when washing hair. Use the rinse 2-3 times a week to achieve the desired results.
