Can children eat vegan?

Children who follow a vegan and sometimes vegetarian diet suffer from severe deficiencies in calcium , vitamin B12, protein, zinc , iron, saturated omega-3 fatty acids and iodine. This raises the question of whether children tolerate veganism well?
